There comes a time when we need some help from a certified professional to help cope with many of life’s challenges. I specialize in Child Welfare and strengthen couples and family relationship with your best interest in mind. I would love to help you on your journey toward healing and self-discovery. For almost two decades, I served clients in the lower mainland and provide them with a wide range of psychological services.
Who is Zinat?
Zinat is a registered social worker under BCCSW with a specialization in Child Welfare and Attachment from the University of British Columbia. She holds a Master’s degree in psychology and has provided individual, couple and family counselling in the lower mainland for over 15 years. She is experienced working with clients who are struggling with anxiety, depression, grief, stress management, emotion regulations, anger management and trauma.
Zinat has extensive experience working with clients who have had relational, communication and parenting issues. She uses a combination of family system theory, Gottman method and client-centred approach. She believes living more mindfully and understanding individuals’ emotions and strengths will help them navigate relationships and stress more skillfully. She employs Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) and various Mindfulness-based approaches depending on what is most applicable for each individual. She is fluent in two languages English and Farsi. Zinat is composed and compassionate in helping individuals and couples in gaining a new understanding of their concerns and acquiring new ways of coping with and solving those problems and creating the life they’ve always wanted.
She enjoys working with families and parents who need a supportive and trusting therapeutic relationship to assist them in resolving emotional and behavioural difficulties arising from traumatic experiences related to relationship conflicts, marital conflicts, separation and Co-parenting issues, cultural challenges, and the transitions.
What do you expect from individual counselling?
Zinat will first let you know about her background and her procedure based on your unique situation. She will not use a fixed procedure for all people because each person has different issues and unique personalities. Since an individual can change over time, her use of therapies will also change as their situations change. You can let her know which part you want to focus more on in the first session. Zinat will check your coping skills for different problems as the counselling process goes on, including what you get and do not get, then she will suggest with another skill if the current skill is not suitable for you. During the process, she will work with you and acknowledge what your strengths are and help you to build self-confidence.
What do you expect from couple counselling?
Although it is expected that two people will do counselling together as it is couple counselling, Zinat will also offer individual sessions to you first for couple counselling. Individual sessions allow each of the couples to share information individually and privately. Individual sessions are effective in helping to improve the relationship when you are uncomfortable with sharing information, feelings, and thoughts with your partner. During the individual or couple session, you and your partner will get educated about each other's boundaries, needs, and emotional management skills.
What do you expect from family counselling?
Zinat will first assess the family dynamic by seeing each of the family members alone. Zinat will discuss their individual expectations of other family members and work with safety issues if there are any. During the individual session with each family member, they will be educated about others' boundaries and how to communicate without stepping into others' boundaries. Parents will also get educated about what information is suitable or not suitable to share in front of their children. The family will be brought together when they are aware of each other's boundaries, absorb the information and skills, and have control of not stepping into the boundaries.
Expectations for counselling:
Counselling is a long-term process a it needs patience and practice. You are expected to give feedback as the process goes, so Zinat can adjust the procedure and strategies based on your crucial feedback. Try not to get discouraged by the time and effort you need to put into the counselling process. Your and your loved one's mental health is more important than anything.
