Kelvin Chung
B.C. Registered Clinical Counsellor #18928
Kelvin is a registered clinical counsellor under BCACC. He is experienced in working with new immigrants, youths, university students, young adults, children, and couples. He specializes in working with clients who struggle with depression, anxiety, stress regarding parenting and intimacy, separation, divorce, grief, addictions, self-esteem, work-life balance, career planning, body image (eating disorders), self-growth, break up, infidelity, family conflicts, trauma attachment and relationship issues. He graduated with a Master of Social Science in Counselling Psychology from Hong Kong Shue Yan University. He has received additional training in Emotionally-focused Therapy from ICEEFT. His approach is collaborative, experimental and person-centred. He has particular interests in working with university students, couples and new immigrants.
Kelvin is a father of his baby daughter. He is from Hong Kong and is now a permanent resident in Canada. As a new immigrant, he understands how difficult it is to master different languages and the struggle it is to leave their home country to blend into a new culture.
He has experienced a lot of traumas in his past that held him back from living in the moment. Hence, He understands how helpless and vulnerable those who experienced trauma are. He used to get anxious and hypervigilant easily because he wanted to protect himself. He was also a person who tends to avoid conflicts which made him feel frustrated and disappointed. He is happy to share his journey with you because he is also a human being. What he experienced could happen to all of us. He feels grateful to have his own counsellor that facilitated him to see his strength inside. He believes that he can lead others to walk the road he has walked.
He speaks Cantonese, Mandarin and English. From the perspective of EFT, he believes all the suffering comes from the emotional pain that trapped us in our lives. We have a surviving system that drives us to fight or flight but it also holds us back from connecting with our inner selves. Nevertheless, if we work together, we can support each other and be able to see what is happening inside, free from the constraints.
Kelvin: It would be a gift for me to work with you.
